Project environment
A. Project environment:
"Initiative Fund" Foundation is based in Lublin -- the largest city of
eastern Poland. Lublin Region as a rural one and also one of the poorest
regions in Poland and European Union is a disadvantaged area.
Nevertheless, there are five universities in Lublin, a big number of
students and a rich cultural and art life. Lublin was one of five final
candidates for European Capital of Culture 2016. The region with its
historical heritage, cultural events and a natural environment is
attractive for tourists. Moreover, a media campaign promoting values of
Lublin Region "Lubelskie - Smakuj A?ycie" is already underway.
Our Foundation has lately opened new branches in two cities of
Subcarpathian Region which is also a disadvantaged area of Poland.
As for our domestic activity, we provide legal advice free of charge for
people who found themselves in a difficult economic and social situation
because of their unfamiliarity with the law. The advice is being given
in our three offices located in Subcarpathian Region. Currently, our
institution also implements projects targeted at socially disadvantaged
groups: the unemployed, learners at risk of social exclusion, people
from rural areas, especially women but we are also carrying out a
project addressed at employees working in commercial sector. We are also
carrying out an international project "Woman in the modern world"
(Lifelong Learning programme - Grundtvig). The key aim of the project is
to support comprehensive development of contemporary women, increase
awareness and knowledge of any problems that may concern women regarding
their roles in private and public life. The project aims also at
increasing the need to educate women and men about the influence of
education, society and media on woman's life path and on perception and
attribution of gender roles.
Learners with disabilities and other special needs also take part in our
trainings, and they are usually treated with a priority while enrolling
on trainings.
EVS would give the local youths an excellent opportunity for
self-development in an European environment, build up their European
identity, raise European awareness. An opportunity which is hardly
available for most of the local youths.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
Volunteers will work maximum 40 hours a week and have weekends off.
Sometimes volunteers may be asked to take part in activities in the
evening or in the weekend in order to cope with special events (hosting
of a delegation, cultural events etc.), in this case, in accordance with
his/her tutor, the volunteer will recuperate later his/her days off.
In general, the volunteers would be engaged in three aspects of
activities. That would be:
- Promotional activities - designing and productions of graphics,
posters, distribution of posters, seeking for a patronage for the
Foundation, participating in other PR activities.
- Administration tasks - help in taking care of the Foundations
logistics (help in buying and distribution of supplies, i.e. both
foodstuffs and bureau materials.) They will be also given opportunity to
learn Polish language by individual conversations provided once or twice
a week by a member of our staff. Based on volunteer's communication
skills he/she will be given opportunity to provide language workshops
for our staff and volunteers from the local society. According to
volunteer's knowledge of his/her country he/she would propose workshops
exploring its culture, art. He/she would organise cuisine evenings etc.
During certain classes volunteers would teach their mother language.
According to his/her experience of Europe and European arrangement like
a programme Youth in Action, mobilities in Europe etc. he/she would
organise meetings to disscuss and promote volunteering and other
European activities. Based on his/her skills and desires it will be to
define time and ways to implement abovementioned activities. All of the
workshops would be open for volunteers from the local society. Much of
the work, which a volunteer will be doing, is to encourage young people
to participate in civic life as well as to develop their personality and
European identity.
- Project activities, which may be divided in two fields: Support in the
merits of a project and Support in logistics.
As for the merits, volunteers will be able to participate in our
international projects e.g. Grundtvig "Woman in the Modern World". They
will be given an opportunity to participate in regular meetings of our
"support group" in Lublin which is composed of both women and men, from
different social, educational and vocational spheres, as well as from
vulnerable social groups and disadvantaged areas. The members of support
groups discuss their problems and other issues related to gender issues,
they interact and cooperate, provide support, aid and motivation to each
other. Also, the volunteers will be given opportunity to accompany a
tutor in his/her one-day visits in our other offices, outside of the
Foundation's seat in Lublin . Apart from our main office in Lublin we
have also three offices in three different cities of Subcarpathian
Region (Stalowa Wola, Nisko, Tarnobrzeg) providing legal advice for the
local citizens. Assistant may choose to help the tutor in his/her tasks
there.
They will be also given opportunity to learn Polish language by
individual conversations provided once or twice a week by a member of
our staff.
According to volunteer's skills, the volunteer would be also engaged in
translating texts and articles in different languages, editing our
internet websites: writing/editing/ adding materials reffering to our
international projects as well as his/her activities in our
organisation. He/she would create own webpage to share his/her
experience gained during the project.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
We would appreciate a volunteer:
- with good communication skills,
- able to work independently and to take his/her own initiative at work.
- eager to learn,
- creative, self-organised and cooperative, willing to share his/her own
experience and skills.
- with unequivocal moral stance
Recrutment process:
In order to achieve a maximum possible response we will send our EVS
offer to a number of organisations with which we have cooperated so far
within frameworks of our international projects, to organisations
available in the database on
http://ec.europa.eu/youth/evs/aod/hei_list_from_query.cfm as well as we
will make an open call for volunteers and partners through following media:
www.SALTO-YOUTH.net <http://www.SALTO-YOUTH.net>
www.Youthnetworks.eu <http://www.Youthnetworks.eu>
To be taken into consideration candidates and their sending organisation
should send us a letter of motivation and a candidate's CV. Selection of
volunteers will be made by assessing CV's and motivational letters and
after an interview on skype. Our EVS projects would be addressed only to
volunteers over 18, therefore there are not special measures for
volunteers under age.
D. Number of volunteers hosted: 3
E. Risk prevention, protection and safety:
On arrival, volunteers will receive information about law in Poland,
consequences of specific conducts, e.g. regarding drugs, noise,
circulation security, etc. They will also receive a list of numbers of
interest and possible need in case of emergency, as well as the mobile
number of the mentor, so they can contact them at any moment.
Volunteers will be accomodated in a lodging or guesthouse in Lublin.
Volunteers will be accompanied by the mentor during the project and
she/he will provide them a good welcome and enable their integration in
the community as well as disscuss possible problems.
The mentor will be from outside of the Foundation to assure appropriate
and healthy relations if a problem in area of volunteers work arise.
As soon as volunteers are accepted we will be in a direct contact with
them and their Sending Organisations. We would like to know expectations
and profile of a volunteer in advance to organize our activities in a
better and more professional way. We would like volunteers to think
about their ideas for personal projects in advance using their cultural
background and experience so they can make some preparations already in
their home countries. During EVS project our foundation will stay in
regular contact with a Sending Organisation (e-mails,skype, telephone).
Our EVS projects would be addressed only to volunteers over 18,
therefore there are not special measures for volunteers under age.
Motivation and EVS experience
Being a Host Organisation is a great opportunity for incoming
volunteers, our staff and members of the local society to broaden
cultural horizons, enhance communication skills, share ideas and views,
gain European experience and raise common European awareness. A
possibility to meet an international volunteer as well as a possible
chance to go abroad for such a programme can attract young people to
come to us, join our activities and enable their self-development.
As a coordinator of a project "Woman in the modern world" (Grundtvig) we
have established strong international and domestic partnerships and
gained a good deal od experience referring to gender issues. We are
ready to share that experience with young volunteers.
We would like to send volunteers because we believe the EVS experience
can immensely contribute to their personal development, communication
skills and European awareness. EVS is a unique opportunity to gain
European experience and we would like to help our youths- inhabitants of
one of the poorest regions in UE- to achieve it.
In addition, those who come back from EVS would be great source of
knowledge, experience and could help us in further work.
We haven't hosted EVS volunteers so far, yet we have been working with
volunteers within frameworks of other projects including two foreign
volunteers working for our international projects -- promotion, seeking
partners etc.The cooperation has been beneficial and we would like to
continue working with volunteers within the bounds of possibilities
offered by EVS.
Coordinating EVS projects would strengthen the impact of our projects on
the local community. Our aim is to be a significant linking between the
local society and United Europe, to promote intercultural understanding
and actively promote EVS. Many organizations could benefit from
employing EVS volunteers. We would be able to help these institutions by
allowing them to concentrate on a volunteer's work, while we would take
over the administration.

2011). We have also placed our offer of Grundtvig Assistantship in the
