Description of the receiving (and coordinating) organization:
TransFair-Minka asbl was founded in 1992 and changed its name to
Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg asbl in 2011 (www.fairtrade.lu [1]). It is the
Luxembourgish fair trade labelling association and a member of FLO
(Fair Trade labelling international organization, www.fairtrade.net
[2]). Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg is supported by over 30 member
associations from charity, environmental, social and religious
movements.
Fair Trade is an alternative approach to conventional world trade, a
partnership between producers and consumers, based on mutual benefit
and respect which ensures that producers in the South receive a fair
price for their work and gain better access to markets in the North.
It aims to tackle the long term problems of the South through
sustainable development for excluded and disadvantaged producers.
Our association is experienced in receiving volunteers since 2007.
Based upon this long experience and extensive background in hosting a
group of European volunteers, our highly motivated seven staff members
are used to assist and train young volunteers coming from abroad. Our
activity aims to arise awareness of the Luxembourgish population
towards social conditions of the third world producers. We regularly
organize awareness campaigns about fair trade products and philosophy.
Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg is frequently present in schools, on markets,
and has regular public appearances through advertisements, press
conferences, etc.
Project proposal:
The aim of our project activities named “Fair Trade education and
awareness” are work on development education and rising awareness
and a sense of empathy with disadvantaged producers in the South. The
main activities in this area are pedagogical projects consisting in
peer education, youngsters talking to youngsters in their classroom,
their youth association’s home or the world shops and children's day
places, and by that educating them to fair trade behavior. A secondary
field is the assistance to various awareness campaigns, fairs and
markets where we explain fair trade principles to people of any age
groups, organization of press conferences and cultural projects.
The main activity “Pädagogische Projekte” is divided in two
different appointments:
1.) Primary school: the volunteers is organizing workshops in
schools;
2.) Day-care facilities for children and youngsters: the
volunteer will organize workshops out-of-school.
In addition we offer a third appointment for European volunteers:

educational and public relation programmes on fair trade and

world shops and other NGO’s, promotion of fair trade catering to
public institutions and sociocultural organisations during their
meetings, conferences, seminars and other events, etc. The knowledge
of the French language may be helpful for project 3.
All candidates are also cordially invited to help 4 hours per week in
a World Shop (“Weltladen”).
General requirements:
The candidates should be motivated to work independently, be open
