Sports Club "Orliczek" have organized the project called "Smile
Academy" within the National Youth Initiatives. Our project turned out to
be the proverbial bull's eye. On the grounds of increased levels of social
pathology (drugs, alcohol, violence)in our region, there is a high demand
for this kind of actions. We want to point out positive patterns of behaviour
and development opportunities facing children and young people. The
interference of international volunteers into the lives of those young people will bring
home to them the opportunities, which European Community affiliation gives. We
want our volunteers to take multipath actions by organizing beneficial, active
forms of spending spare time for childern as well as being a living
example of self-realization opportunity through EU programmes. Moreover, through the
contact with international volunteers we want to promote the European
Community, understanding of diversity as well as to fight with prejudices
and stereotypes. We believe that voluntary service organized by our
association will bring mutual benefits facilitating the exchange of knowledge,
experiences and skills.

Drawsko Pomorskie is a small town in northwestern part of Poland. The town
is located approximately 100 km from the German border and 80 km from the
Baltic Sea. Our town has a population of around 15,000 inhabitants. It is
a quiet and picturesque town with a beautiful lake and a well-developed
sports infrastructure. There is a primary school, lower secondary school
and upper secondary school. About 5 km from the town, there is the second
largest military training ground in Europe.

Drawsko Pomorskie is colloquially known as the town of pensioners. Due to
lack of jobs and development opportunities, many young people leave to go
abroad or to bigger cities in order to study or search jobs. There are
quite many small businesses (corner shops, small workshops), but the town
lacks large companies that could give employment to the inhabitants of
Drawsko Pomorskie. Although our region offers many opportunities for
tourism, it still remains an untapped sector.

The Project shall be located in the area of Upper-Secondary School Complex
no.1 in Drawsko Pomorskie. There is the sports complex “My playground”
Orlik 2012. The multifunctional sports field is located between the blocks
of flats on Złocieniecka Street and Sadowa Street. There are new blocks
of flats under construction now. Such density of population together with
lack of community hall can result in many inconveniences and risks. There
is a high level of social ills in this area (drugs, poverty, alcohol,
violence), lack of employment, better life prospects and development
opportunities. Negative behaviour patterns are passed down from one
generation to another. Young people spend their free time drinking beer
and smoking pot. Our activity on the sports field is aimed at redirecting
their interests toward sport, recreation, tourism, education etc.

Our sports field description:

Our complex has a sports field with artificial turf for playing football,
and a small area for playing volleyball, handball, basketball, tennis and
table tennis. There are two changing rooms equipped with toilets and
showers. In addition, we have a storeroom and a trainer’s room. Our
facility is used by children, teenagers, adults, whole families and
organised groups (school teams, sport clubs etc.). During bad weather,
children and teenagers play games and have fun in the changing rooms.
